What’s in a Name?

Here’s how an incredibly aptly named cog in the Alaskan Republican machine is spinning the stunning upset of Sen. Lisa Murkowski in Tuesday’s primary:

“Lisa just didn’t run a good campaign,” said Alaska-based GOP political consultant Art Hackney. “There’s absolutely no reason she shouldn’t have won that, Sarah Palin or not.”

I would venture to say that it is a self-evident proposition that an incumbent senator who loses to a previously unknown rival has not run a good campaign. It’s a trivial, indeed hackneyed, observation, perhaps, but inarguably correct. Of course, without the impressive qualifications of Joe Miller and the consistently underestimated impact of Sarah Palin, Sen. Murkowski’s ineptitude would never have been noticed.
